Ka Huna is an endlessly flowing style of Hawaiian-inspired bodywork employing long, rhythmic strokes using the hands, forearms and (sometimes) elbows. The flow, focus and intention of this style gives it a rhythmic, meditative quality, and makes it feel quite different from conventional massage styles.
Many seek out Ka Huna to feel a sense relaxation, wellbeing, connection and emotional support. The style feels deeply nurturing – which is so important in a world where many of us are often starved of the benefits of physical touch, presence and connection. As a result, some people can experience emotional shifts and healing as a result of this experience, alongside the physical benefits.
Sessions takes place in the calm, comfortable setting of my massage studio, located close to Kings Cross station in Elizabeth Bay. I use warm coconut oil, soothing music and long, flowing movements that can range from gentle to firmer pressure. I'll discuss your preferences before we begin, so the session can be tailored to your comfort.
Ka Huna can incorporate both gentle, soothing movements and deeper pressure. I'll ask about your preferences and adjust the treatment accordingly. You can ask for a change in pressure or technique at any time.
The areas covered depend on the session time. 60 minutes allows time for the back of the body, along with neck, scalp and face massage – while 90 minutes also includes the front of the body and (if time allows) a longer neck, scalp and face massage.
Of course. Personally, I always have a policy not to chat with you during the session, so you can fully switch off and drift to your happy place. But you can communicate as much or as little as you like. You're welcome to ask questions, request an adjustment, or simply relax quietly throughout the session.
Different people respond to this massage in different ways (often depending on their emotional state and individual needs at the time). Some find the experience deeply relaxing, others may be energised, while others may notice emotions like sadness or grief. Occasionally, a client may experience tears. Whatever is needed is all ok, and I aim to create a safe space for whatever comes up during the session.
